I had a blast working in person with some of my amazing clients last week at one of my Transformational Writing Retreats.
It’s difficult to put into words the power of these gatherings… and the shifts, results and experiences everyone has, to make amazing progress in their work as an author and leader in the world.
Whether during group sessions, or in my many private coaching sessions with attendees… I’m constantly revealing insights, “a-ha’s” and understandings that lead to big breakthroughs.
One of which I want to share with you here…
But first I want to warn you that this “a-ha” may push some buttons or make you uncomfortable… especially if you’ve been suffering from the “disorder” I’m about to share.
This disorder is the most rampant problem I see authors, coaches, consultants, leaders, business owners, online entrepreneurs, etc. facing today.
It’s so insidious, it’ll make you believe you really are doing what’s best for you, but in truth it’s exactly what’s keeping you from writing, creating, leading and having the fullest impact you’re here to have.
The disorder is called… Information Indigestion.
I shared this with one of my retreat attendees during our private coaching session and she instantly knew she had this disorder and was eager for me to help her with the remedy.
Information indigestion is what happens when you constantly consume information, but don’t DIGEST it, don’t USE it and don’t IMPLEMENT what you’re learning into your writing ,work, business or life.
Let’s use food an example since I’m talking about indigestion…
When you consume too much food too quickly… you end up with indigestion, heartburn, bloating, gas, and discomfort. Yet you may continue to consume food because it is there and easy to eat, even though you haven’t yet digested the food you ate previously.
This over consumption leads to a sense of feeling too full, congested, restricted and downright uncomfortable… perhaps wishing you stopped eating sooner.
Here’s your big “a-ha”…
Consuming information is the same.
If you keep learning, reading, buying a million courses, researching, etc. without properly digesting the information and taking ACTION on it… you end up with information indigestion.
The symptoms of this “disorder” are…
- Feeling stuck
- General sense of overwhelm
- Difficulty in taking action
- Results come slowly, or not at all
- Lack of clarity and/or confidence
- Confusion
- Too much “thinking” not enough “doing”
- And more!
These symptoms occur because you are taking in much more information that you are integrating and using. You create an energetic traffic jam that can only be cleared out by DIGESTING what you’ve consumed and IMPLEMNTING what you’ve learned.
In order to remedy information indigestion, you must make a commitment to significantly decrease the amount of information you consume and choose what you do consume carefully.
By reducing or eliminating the amount of information you take in, you’ll be better equipped to DIGEST, INTEGRATE and UTILIZE the information you’ve already consumed.
It’s critical that as you take action to remedy information indigestion, you also learn how to use DISCERNMENT to make sure you are only consuming information that is RIGHT for you.
For example, if your goal is to write a transformational book, then you shouldn’t be consuming more than one book writing course or program. Too much information on one topic will only keep you spinning in circles, and not writing.
If that’s you, for example, my Get Your Book Done program provides a one-step resource for writing. You won’t need a dozen other writing courses that will only distract and derail you from your end goal.
Here’s another example.
If you’re starting a NEW business, it’s important to not consume information about growing a seven (or eight) figure business. Focus on your first $100,000 first, because that’s where you are. Learning how to build a big business, before you have any business at all is only going to keep you stuck because the strategies to grow to seven-figures or beyond aren’t the best strategies to get your first few clients.
Got it?
Information indigestion takes amazing people out of the game every single day.
Don’t let yourself fall prey to this “disorder.” Rather, take control of the quantity, quality and relevance of the information you consume.
DIGEST and INTEGRATE before you consume more. Knowledge isn’t power unless you USE it!
