Never Say Never

In the fall of 2011 I failed miserably at hosting an online webinar. I worked with someone who came highly recommended to help put it together. And, I did everything I was “supposed” to do… yet it bombed.

We’re talking maybe 3 sales at best. It was embarrassing, frustrating and felt like a waste of time, money and energy. It was then that I pretty much said “I’ll never do this again.”

However, as I and my business have grown over the past few years, I’m finding it necessary to stretch, grow, get out of my comfort zone and… never say never.

Perhaps you’ve said “never again” to yourself in the past. Only to realize when you’re a few years older – and wiser – that there comes a time and place to revisit the very thing you said you wouldn’t do again. Here’s what that looked like for me, and what I learned along the way…

When my webinar bombed a few years ago, I went public with the news. Yep… I emailed my entire subscriber community to tell them how miserable my results were and how I felt about it. Lots of people were shocked that I would share the full truth about this failure… but I had to. I wanted my community to learn from my experience.

So, you can imagine my surprise when at the end of last year it because crystal clear that in order for me to help as many people as I could to get their books done, I would have to be willing to create and deliver a brand new webinar. One that would reach many more people than I could without it.

And, with the help of my team, I did it!

Needless to say I was nervous and scared that it would be a repeat performance of the failure I experienced a few years ago. But, I was also much more confident about the massive difference it would make to aspiring authors around the world!

So, I worked through the fears and the voices of doubt that said “never again.” I spent hours and days working out the details of what I wanted to teach and what I wanted participants to walk away with. I wrote about 18,000 words of content – nearly half a book! I was fired up about the possibilities of how this could help people and I was happy to put in long hours and dedicated energy to create it.

Long story short. I put “never” away… and ran the webinar for the first time just two weeks ago with a valued partner. And, it worked!

Hundreds of people registered to watch it… and dozens of aspiring authors decided to work with me as a result. It was super exciting, and rewarding to see so many people get inspired about writing their books!

I share this with you in hopes that you too, will revisit something you’ve said “never” to. Maybe you’ve tried to write your book in the past and said “never” to that, or perhaps to raising your prices, or creating a new service.

Whatever it may be, take a moment to explore the possibility of what could happen if you revisited “never.” My hope is that you’ll have the same rewarding and eye-opening experience I did.

Oh, and if you’re curious to see my new webinar, keep your eyes out next week… I’ll send you a link.

I’d love to hear what “never” you’re willing to revisit. Comment below and let me know.
