Arms Up

great_bearRight now – at this very moment in time – you are on a magnificent, wild, unimaginable journey.  A journey filled with ups and downs, twists and turns, highs and lows, surprises, bumps and… bliss.

A journey that is calling your soul to experience all that you’re here to experience; love, learn and grow like you’re meant to; and become the radiant spark of the Divine you truly are.

Believe me, I know sometimes the journey feels more like a climb up Mt. Everest without the right equipment, or like a truck ran over you.  Sometimes it feels like a fish struggling to swim upstream.  And, sometimes… it feels like heaven on earth.  Sometimes we get that glimpse of the glory of this thing called life – and the magnificence of our soul’s journey.

So, what has the power to shift your experience from struggling up Mt. Everest without the right equipment – to experiencing life as heaven on earth?

Here’s something that’s helped me on the journey recently…

I call it living life with your “Arms Up.”

My daughter, Janet, and I are roller coaster addicts.  Which is why we go to Hershey Park as often as we can to ride the coasters that shoot us out from 0-60 mph in one second, drop us down hairpin turns, flip us around with our feet flailing in the air, and send us racing up, down and around every possible way.

Janet is 8 and has been riding upside down roller coasters since she was 3.  Since the very beginning we’ve had an “arms up” approach to roller coasters that has recently been transferring over to my life off the rides.

Let me explain…
Just like the roller coaster, life is going to take you on a journey.  And if you believe in the role that SOUL plays in your life, then you also likely understand that much of this journey is determined by your soul’s purpose and plan for you this time around on planet Earth.  And not planned so much from your drive and will.

So, given this understanding, you have two choices…

1) Live in the illusion that you are in control and fight against what’s happening to you, or at least continue to hold on with a tight grip.

2)Understand that something on a much higher and deeper level is happening and surrender to that journey… even when it’s challenging.

You can enjoy the thrill of the ride for what it is through the power of surrender or “arms up” living, or you can hold on for your life white-knuckling it from beginning to end wishing the ride would stop or at least slow down.

But, let me tell you this… the more you become aligned with who you are and what your soul came here to do at this time on earth, the faster the ride goes.

And if you’re not willing to throw your “arms up” and say OK… I’m ready!  This is why I’m here… use me in the ways I was made to be used.  Help me fulfill my purpose and make the difference I’m here to make.   Bring it on!!  Well, then you may just find yourself hanging on to the bitter end… having missed the joy of the ride along the way.

I know you don’t want that for yourself, I certainly don’t want if for myself – or you – either.

So, perhaps just for today… let yourself embrace the “arms up” approach and ride the twist and turns with a little more surrender, a little more trust, and a lot more joy.  You’re going to reach the end destination anyway, so why not let go and enjoy the ride!
